The Music Industry Club will host the 5th annual Life Is Art Festival on April 12, 2014 in the Baker Commons from 10am-9pm. The purpose of this festival is to promote all local forms of art in a positive environment. The event will feature performances by local bands throughout the day, student art exhibits, and local independent vendors. We also have three food trucks coming from Buffalo; The Cheesy Chick, J & L BBQ, and Llyod’s Taco Truck. We hold a large raffle on campus during the week leading up to the festival, as well as at the festival with the drawing taking place in the early evening. We are still seeking donations for raffle items to include. Our club will be donating all of the proceeds to the Music Is Art Foundation in Buffalo. The foundation aims to promote music’s impact on the cultural, social, and educational aspects of local communities.Music is Art operates through a board of directors, staff, sponsors, and volunteers, as well as collaborations with several partner organizations.
Music is Art is a not-for-profit, federal 501©3 organization founded in 2003 by Goo Goo Dolls bassist and Buffalo resident, Robby Takac. Our mission is to explore and reshape music’s cultural, social, and educational impact on our community and we do this with a variety of programs and events.
We are best known for our signature event, the Music is Art Festival which is a one-day, all day, absolutely free festival that is held each September, drawing crowds in the tens of thousands to explore all forms of music and art in Western New York and is a true showcase of the creativity right here in our backyards.
We also run an instrument program where we collect new and used instruments and get them into the hands of budding student musicians. Hold an annual Battle of the High School Bands, conduct a summer camp for both classical music as well as rock and jazz, and run several other workshops and programs for youth.
Music is Art is proud to enrich our community with access to music. It is our hope that we encourage people to find their musical voice, think about how music touches their lives, and most importantly think about the fact that….music is art.
