Get Involved!

Interested in getting involved on campus? Below are a few of the ways YOU can get involved!

1. Join a club! With over 180 clubs on campus, there is sure to be something to peak your interest! Every semester there is an Activities Night hosted by Spectrum where students can come learn about and join clubs. For more details about what clubs we have on campus, email sa.speaker@fredonia.edu.

2. Become a representative! For every 100 students on campus, there is a class representative to speak for them. Be a part of the General Assembly, the governing body of the Association, and help guide the Student Association in its service of our students! (more information below)

3. Everything else! Below is a list of open positions the Association is looking to fill. For some you will have to apply, for others you simply have to join. Now is your chance to get involved and be a voice for the students!

Being a Student Association Class Representative
If you are reading this you have indicated an interest in becoming a representative of your class within the Student Association! We are very glad to hear that! Representatives are charged with representing one hundred students of their class in the General Assembly: dealing with groups, money they request, and representing the students of Fredonia to the university and community. There are just a few simple steps that you will need to take in order to become a representative. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to CONTACT the Speaker of the Assembly.

STEP 1) Meet with the Speaker or Assistant Speaker of the Assembly to ask if there are available seats within your class.

STEP 2) Send a “Letter of Intent” to the Speaker of the Assembly. This letter should state that you would like to join the Student Association as a Representative. Feel free to include why you feel you are qualified, any experience you have, and why you want to join.

STEP 3) Come to our weekly General Assembly meeting at 5:30pm Thursday, McEwen G-26. Attached to the back of this document is sheet that needs signatures from one more than half of the current representatives of your class. The other reps may ask you questions about why you want to serve-they’re not trying to stop you from joining, they just want to get to know you better! You can get the signatures at the end of the meeting and then turn it into the Assistant Speaker or Speaker of the Assembly.

STEP 4) Attend the next Rules Committee meeting Mondays at 6 pm in the Williams Center, G103B. The Rules committee is composed of both Reps and Non-Reps. Every appointment, new club, and club looking to be re-recognized has to come see them to explain who they are and why they want to do what they’re doing. Whether you are approved by the Rules Committee or not, you will be forwarded to the General Assembly.

STEP 5) Show up to the General Assembly again, 5:30pm Thursday in McEwen G-26. You will either be passed as recommended by the Rules Committee in the consent agenda (which is where a bunch of things are voted on at once), or pulled off and asked more questions. If you are approved here, you are now a Class Representative with full voting rights!

Responsibilities of a Class Representative

1) Attendance is mandatory at every Student Association General Assembly meeting. They are Thursdays at 5:30pm in McEwen G-26. If there is a conflict, please contact the Speaker of the Assembly.

2) Sign out your minutes for the General Assembly meetings before 4:30pm on Thursdays. The sign out sheet and minutes are located on the desk across from the mailboxes. Read them over before the meeting.

3) You will need to attend one session the standing committee meetings, which are the Rules Committee (unless you stayed through the meeting at which you were passed through the Committee), the Budget and Appropriations Committee, and the Elections Committee. 6) Remember; you are working to help the students of Fredonia. Be respectful, responsible, and keep the welfare of the students and the Association in mind at all times.
